Roster Update 5: A Preview of Possible Investments

June 19, 2022 by LouisAnalysis

I’m not going to keep repeating myself. We all know how random the Roster Updates are. We also know how much stubs we have been making since the release of these articles. Let’s look forward to next week’s Roster Update, with 5 highlighted batters and pitchers, with 5 more honorable mentions for each.

PLEASE NOTE : This article is based on current player performance, and none of the investments suggested in this article are guaranteed stubs.

Date : 19th of June 2022.

Hot Hitters : Highlights

These are the 5 highlighted batters for this week’s article. These are highlighted for their exceptional performances, and are the most likely to go up. I say most likely as in ‘if SDS decides they feel like upgrading them’.

Yordan Alvarez : Houston Astros

Current Overall : 87

Predicted Overall : 88-90

Recommended Buy Now Price : – 4,550

Yordan Alvarez has been incredible for the Houston Astros this season and seems to keep improving throughout the season. With the way the market is working this year, Alvarez could be a solid investment around Quick Sell value. If you get him at or around Quick Sell, you can either Quick Sell his higher rated card or sell his 87 card in the hype if the value exceeds the future Quick Sell value.

  • AB : 55
  • R : 12
  • H : 26
  • HR : 4
  • RBI : 19
  • AVG : .473
  • OBP : .544
  • SLG : .830
  • OPS : 374

Jake Cronenworth : San Diego Padres

Current Overall : 78

Predicted Overall : 79 – 81

Recommended Buy Price : – 300

After a slow start to his season, Jake Cronenworth seems to have found his form and has been incredible for the Padres’ offense. With silver upgrades being questionable to say the least, I advise to sell Cronenworth in the hype and take your guaranteed stubs.

  • AB : 57
  • R : 15
  • H : 23
  • HR : 3
  • RBI : 21
  • AVG : .404
  • OBP : .500
  • SLG : .702
  • OPS : 202

Brandon Drury : Reds

Current Overall : 80

Predicted Overall : 82 – 83

Recommended Buy Price : – 500

Brandon Drury has been great for the Reds over the last 15 games. His 80 rated card is only +100 stubs over his Quick Sell Value, which means that he is a considerably risk-free investment. With a mediocre team around him and varying performances, Drury is another player I would move on in the hype to guarantee stubs, depending on his performances in the next 5-7 games.

  • AB : 50
  • R : 16
  • H : 17
  • HR : 6
  • RBI : 9
  • AVG : .340
  • OBP : .411
  • SLG : .720
  • OPS : 131

Xander Bogaerts : Boston Red Sox

Current Overall : 82

Predicted Overall : 83 – 84

Recommended Buy Price : – 950

Xander Bogaerts has arguably been the most reliable hitter for the Boston Red Sox this season. In the shadow of Rafael Devers, Bogaerts has been batting .339 across the whole season, which is an incredible number. In the last 15 games, especially the last 7, Bogaerts has been red-hot and looks due for an upgrade. With his value being near Quick Sell, Bogaerts is relatively risk-free.

  • AB : 56
  • R : 10
  • H : 21
  • HR : 1
  • RBI : 9
  • AVG : .375
  • OBP : .429
  • SLG : .554
  • OPS : .983

José Abreu : Chicago White Sox

Current Overall : 80

Predicted Overall : 81-83

Recommended Buy Price : – 450

Back-to back entries for José Abreu! Abreu has not slowed down one bit since the last Roster Update and could be in for another upgrade. Another card near Quick Sell Value, which makes Abreu another relatively risk-free investment. The ideal time to sell this card is linked with his own performances, but if the hype takes this card over 1,000 stubs, I would advise to sell him.

  • AB : 60
  • R : 12
  • H : 20
  • HR : 4
  • RBI : 10
  • AVG : .333
  • OBP : .437
  • SLG : .583
  • OPS :020

Performing Pitchers

Now let’s have a look at pitchers who are due an upgrade. Keep in mind that pitchers only need one bad performance to possibly lose their upgrade, so the risk of investing in pitchers is definitely higher than investing in batters. At the time of writing, most pitchers will have one more appearance before the Roster Update, so keep an eye on them. After some feedback, the stats of last 15 days will be used for the pitchers, similar to the batters.

Sandy Alcantara : Miami Marlins

Current Overall : 84

Predicted Overall : 85+

Recommended Buy Price : – 2,650

Sandy Alcantara has been nothing short of impressive for the Miami Marlins. Having received a big +5 upgrade in the previous Roster Update and no sign of slowing down in his performances, Sandy Alcantara shows real potential to go 85+. 2,650 stubs should be seen as the highest Buy Price, as that gives you a Quick Sell profit of 350. Keep in mind that no pitcher is a ‘diamond lock’.

  • ERA : 1.08
  • R : 2
  • H : 12
  • HR : 0
  • WHIP : 0.90
  • SO : 11
  • IP : 16.2

Edwin Diaz : New York Mets

Current Overall : 84

Predicted Overall : 85+

Recommended Buy Price : – 2,200

Edwin Diaz has been nothing short of incredible. In the last 3 weeks, Edwin Diaz has given up two hits, and struck out over 50% of batters faced. With a relatively low Sell Now price, you could make significant profit on him.

  • ERA : 0.00(!)
  • R : 0
  • H : 2
  • HR : 0
  • WHIP : 0.64
  • SO : 10
  • IP : 5.2

Yu Darvish : San Diego Padres

Current Overall : 80

Predicted Overall : 81 – 83

Recommended Buy Price : – 475

Yu Darvish has been a consistent performer for the Padres this season and has shown real quality in his two starts. With a relatively low Sell Now price, Darvish could be an ideal card to invest in if you’re looking to try out investing in pitchers with minimal risk. I would advise to sell Darvish if he goes over the 1,000 stubs mark.

  • ERA : 0.60
  • R : 1
  • H : 7
  • HR : 1
  • WHIP : 0.47
  • SO : 13
  • IP : 15.0

Zack Wheeler : Phillies

Current Overall : 83

Predicted Overall : 84 – 85

Recommended Buy Price : – 2,200

Zack Wheeler has been great for the Phillies. After a rough start to his season, Wheeler has picked up in form. After winning the NL Pitcher Of The Month for May, Wheeler has continued to show impressive form. With a slightly inflated Sell Now Price, Wheeler is a slightly riskier investment and should be sold in the hype, as the +2 is not guaranteed.

  • ERA : 0.69
  • R : 1
  • H : 6
  • HR : 1
  • WHIP : 0.46
  • SO : 11
  • IP : 13.0

David Bednar : Pittsburgh Pirates

Current Overall : 83

Predicted Overall : 84 – 85

Recommended Buy Price : – 1,900

Another prolific closer, David Bednar has been a vital part of the Pirates bullpen and has shown impressive pitching. Bednar being a closer and playing for the Pirates has kept his price down and gives us all an opportunity to make good profit. Just like Wheeler, I advise to sell Bednar in the hype before the update if his price goes over 3,000 stubs. Keep in mind that Bednar could be a slightly riskier investment.

  • ERA : 0.00
  • R : 0
  • H : 2
  • HR : 0
  • WHIP : 0.71
  • SO : 7
  • IP : 6.3

Honorable Mentions : Batters

These players will still be great investments, but hold slightly higher risk. I will add the most crucial stats in the following order : BA / OBP / SLG / Current OVR / Predicted OVR / Recommended Buy Price. This will give everyone a bigger pool of investments to pick from!

Honorable Mentions : Pitchers

The same will be done for pitchers. These hold even higher risk as they are (lower level) pitchers who are performing well. Obviously, because of the risk connected to these investments, there is a bigger profit to be made if you pick the right investment. Stats will be in the following order : IP / ERA / WHIP / Current OVR / Predicted OVR / Recommended Buy Price

Sell tip : Sell all of your investments in the hype if they aren’t going diamond. Most of these players will be dumped after the Roster Update and decrease in price. Sell time can decide if you make profit or not!

High Tier Investments

I have decided to not add any High Tier Investments in this edition, as I don’t see clear candidates that could be profit. Trout is performing well, so is Ramirez, Judge and Goldschmidt, but none of them show real potential to make you stubs. I would rather give you guys none then give you three that see you lose stubs.

This is it for this week’s investment update. Let’s hope these players keep performing the way they have. For any questions, make sure to reach out to us on Twitter @mlbtheshowzone or @LouisAnalysis.
